Inclusion and Belonging at L.L.Bean
Starting with the original Maine Hunting Shoe, L.L.Bean was founded to enable outdoor experiences for everyone because L.L. himself believed that we are at our best when we are outside. He also believed in the core value of respect for people and that the stronger the workforce the stronger the company.
We therefore aim to have a workforce that believes our purpose, is reflective of our stakeholders, and an inclusive culture that attracts the most talented people who are in turn empowered to do their best work.
Since 1912, we’ve grown from a single employee (our founder, Leon Leonwood Bean) to more than 7,000 employees globally. We strive to build a culture of belonging for all employees, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, abilities, or sexual orientations to ensure the most talented people can do their best work. Here are just some of the ways we have created workplace as open, accepting and enriching as the great outdoors.

To ensure we have the most talented workforce, we recruit and hire people of all backgrounds and continuously support learning, career development and advancement for all employees. These efforts foster a culture where employees develop meaningful relationships and engage the fullness of their talents and skills.

We’re committed to creating a welcoming and accessible workplace environment that promotes collaboration, innovation and wellbeing through a connection to nature. Our brand-new L.L.Bean Headquarters touts expansive views of the outdoors, natural light, indoor/outdoor meeting spaces, indoor fireplaces and outdoor fire pits, national park murals, public trails and a 10,000 square-foot open courtyard. Prioritizing accessibility, our campus also includes accessible parking, entrances and exits, restrooms and showers, as well as 14 quiet rooms and five mother’s rooms.

Supporting employees’ mental and physical health is imperative to our values as an outdoor company – and in building a successful workforce. Our services and benefits include an Employee Assistance Program––offering free onsite therapy services, hotlines, and other resources to all employees— state of the art fitness centers, free health screenings and more.

With a workforce of individuals from across the globe, we share information with employees about a number of important holidays and cultural moments to recognize and celebrate our L.L.Bean community.

EBRGs are an opportunity to connect with others who share similar identities and experiences in a friendly, supportive, and inclusive environment. Members build community, develop and share resources, and engage in local outreach. We currently have Veteran and PRIDE, BIPOC and a Disability EBRG is in the works!

L.L.Bean is a values-driven company, and those values are shared globally – we’re known for our Maine roots, but we have a presence around the world! From our teams in Japan and Hong Kong to our Costa Rica offices, you'll be collaborating with geographically diverse colleagues – a wonderful way to become a global citizen.
